Meet the people at AT&T, owner of CNN, who think it’s OK to silence Americans

00:00:01
So at the end of last night’s show right at the end we told you that the dwarf king might be
00:00:06
vacating his musky lair over at cnn turns out we were right this morning jeff zucker informed his bewildered
00:00:12
minions at the disgraced cable channel that in fact he is leaving at the end of this year and honestly
00:00:17
we’re gonna miss him in a business filled with blustery half-wits zucker was absolutely the blusterist
00:00:24
if that’s a word you cannot be elected president of the united states without cnn
00:00:29
he’s once boasted to his felon lawyer buddy michael cohen on a tape we brought you a few months ago
00:00:34
hilarious it’s kind of hard to beat that level of entertainment with your pants on we didn’t even have to watch cnn to
00:00:39
enjoy it but it’s also worth remembering jeff zucker’s other contribution to the
00:00:45
american media landscape jeff zucker’s relentless attacks on the freedom of speech
00:00:50
zucker created an entire unit at cnn devoted to shutting down any news organization that refused to toe the
00:00:56
ruling class line if you had unauthorized questions about anything
00:01:01
jeff zucker wanted to force you to be quiet and he tried zucker staffed his own little ministry
00:01:07
of truth with two of the most repulsive yet obedient imposters he could find political activists posing as
00:01:14
reporters thugs pretending to be objective analysts he set them loose to silence
00:01:19
free thinking journalists with threats lies and bullying
00:01:23
in a number of cases they have been successful a tragedy every time cnn is in fact trying its best to pull
00:01:30
this show and fox itself off the air for good harm reduction that’s what they call it
00:01:36
as if fox news was a deadly pathogen that is not the behavior of a legitimate news organization but it’s exactly what
00:01:43
cnn has become a tv channel that makes billion a billion dollars a year
00:01:48
using the first amendment to kill free speech in the rest of the media that’s wrong but it’s not just wrong
00:01:54
it’s frightening you don’t want to live in the country cnn is creating but jeff sucker has not done this alone
00:02:01
going forward we want to be a lot more specific and much more detailed about who
00:02:06
is trying to strip you of your most valuable birthright as an american which is the freedom to speak and hear
00:02:12
the truth everything is based on that and you should know the names of the people
00:02:16
trying to take it away you should know why they’re trying to do it you should understand the stakes
00:02:22
we want to begin tonight briefly because we’re going to have a lot more time in the coming weeks and months because
00:02:27
it’s important but we want to begin tonight with jeff zucker’s boss a man called john stanky
00:02:32
now john stanky runs at t which owns cnn stanky knows what jeff zucker does at cnn and he strongly approves of it
00:02:40
last year stanky announced that zucker was doing quote a wonderful job at the channel and you should be
00:02:46
concerned about that at t is an enormously powerful company in 2019
00:02:52
its net income was nearly 14 billion dollars more ominous att controls over a million
00:02:58
miles of fiber lines chances are virtually everything you know about the outside
00:03:04
world flows through a t’s property so john stanky’s opinions matter
00:03:10
he has an awful lot of control over your life john stanky thinks it’s okay to silence the show to silence you
00:03:16
why does john stanky think that we would very much love to ask him but in the meantime we
00:03:22
will keep digging and we’re going to let you know what we find

https://youtu.be/IqDrZYNafAg

00:00:03
A t it’s one of the most powerful conglomerates
00:00:07
in the world it’s the largest telecommunications company on the globe it’s also not incidentally the parent
00:00:13
company of cnn that means a massive amount of america’s digital infrastructure depends
00:00:19
on cnn a massive amount if a t and its ceo john stanky decided to prioritize
00:00:26
foreign interests over american interests that would be grave news to every
00:00:31
american we’re learning tonight that at least one instance that’s exactly what a t and
00:00:37
john stanky did we’ve confirmed that a t lobbied the department of commerce
00:00:42
not to levy sanctions against china telecom which is a large state-owned corporation headquartered in beijing

00:00:48
this was first reported by the national file specifically we know that at t worked to keep china telecom off of
00:00:54
something called the entity list that list blocks companies from selling american products and technology
00:01:00
to certain foreign firms without first getting a license we’re told that china telecom was set to
00:01:05
be sanctioned because of its alleged support of human rights abuses by china’s government
00:01:09
and there are very many of those u.s officials have said that china telecom is backed by the chinese military
00:01:15
and under control of the nation’s communist party and of course that makes sense
00:01:19
a t is a proud partner of china telecom has a joint venture with china telecom in a statement provided to this show
00:01:27
a t admitted that it does not want china telecom on the entities list setting potential unintended
00:01:32
consequences corey stewart is the former under secretary of commerce for industry and
00:01:37
security he has first-hand knowledge of what happened and he joins us tonight to
00:01:42
explain corey stewart i appreciate your coming on tonight it’s hard to believe that a t
00:01:47
an american you think of it as an american company would lobby on behalf of a company controlled by the chinese
00:01:53
military tell us if you would what you know about this and why it happened well you know i was
00:01:58
as i was under secretary uh some it was very disturbing because uh we had a lot of indications
00:02:03
uh there’s very good intelligence out there uh that uh the chinese government through its it’s
00:02:09
basically state-owned subsidiary of china telecom has been using cell phone technology telecommunications
00:02:15
technology to track minority populations in china to spy on them and then to hand this
00:02:22
information over to the china police state and they’re rounding up the uyghur
00:02:27
population which is a minority muslim group in western china as well as tibetans and other minorities and
00:02:33
placing these people in essentially modern day concentration camps
00:02:38
where there’s widespread reports of of gang rapes of torture other human rights abuses potentially
00:02:45
even executions and genocide occurring in these camps and china telecom was assisting
00:02:51
the government of china and helping to do that when we learned of this we of course in the trump administration
00:02:57
uh began to place china telecom on the entity list to put sanctions upon them when we were contacted by ed gillespie
00:03:05
the executive vice president of atnt who urged us not to place uh china telecom despite these abuses on
00:03:14
the entity list and needless to say we were pretty much shocked by that
00:03:20
why would john stanky the ceo of the company i mean a t has a lot of different businesses
00:03:26
it’s a very successful company critical company in in the united states why would he
00:03:31
jeopardize the image of a t by siding with a company that is had a hand in
00:03:39
genocide in china it doesn’t make sense to me it it doesn’t make sense
00:03:44
unless you assume that despite what cnn and its corporate parents say about
00:03:50
protecting minorities and standing up for human rights if it’s all a lie and what they’re
00:03:56
actually doing is placing profit over and above human rights over and above u.s national
00:04:03
security concerns and you know i have to say that att is not alone
00:04:08
there are other u.s corporations in china who are turning a blind eye to the human rights abuses who are
00:04:14
turning a blind eye to china threatening its neighbors in the south china sea who are turning a blind eye to that
00:04:20
what they’re doing is is helping the china uh undermine u.s national security
00:04:26
concerns and that is uh something that we tried in the trump administration
00:04:32
and we were on the verge of placing china telecom uh as well as other companies on the
00:04:37
entity list and let me just say this the staff the career staff at the commerce department we’re clearly on a
00:04:43
path to do this if it doesn’t happen that will mean that there was pressure from the biden
00:04:49
administration put on it by att to not put them on there i look forward to cnn covering the story in some detail
00:04:56
given that often expressed concern for human rights under secretary stewart i appreciate you
